A good collection of independent musicJan 03, 2003
This video features a wide variety of music videos from a lot of good punk and ska bands. The videos are obviously not high-budget pieces made for MTV, but that is certainly part of the beauty if you're into this genre of music. Some suprisingly good videos includ MU330's "Tune Me Out," Slow Gherkin's "How Now Lowbrow," and King Apparatus' "Made For T.V." However, the real highlights of the video are "An Evening of Extraordinary Circumstances" by The Lawrence Arms and Alkaline Trio's "Goodbye Forever." The Lawrence Arms song is about letting life go to waste by always doing meaningless things and putting everything off for tomorrow but never really doing it. The video, which at first glance is just a recording of the band members and their friends hanging out and not really doing anything, actually does convey the message of the song quite well. "Goodbye Forever," which is one of my personal favorite Alkaline Trio songs, is also a great video, although again, it really lacks much activity or plot. It is basically of Matt Skiba singing and the band goofing around, but the song really adds to it, and the video comes across as powerful. If you are looking to explore new music and bands you haven't heard of, don't buy this. The music videos are nothing spectacular and you would be better off just buying a compliation CD. I would really only recommend this video for anyone who is a big fan of any of the bands featured on it. In this case, you will probably really like the video and be happy with your purchase.
