not even worth $8Aug 04, 2004
By Tim Brown
"420"
a lame collection of incomplete reggae performances. someone got this stuff from the someone elses garbage pail. (except the two segments from the movie rockers, for which you should just get 'rockers') poor quality video and sound. most performances are from lame free concerts where the audience doesn't care and either do the musicians. for some reason there is a picture of big youth on the front, but no big youth inside. GARBAGE. save your $8

Good buy (though some technical issues)Aug 14, 2003
By Jingleballs The audio and video quality is inconsistant and sometimes sketchy, and there are a few technical problems (with menu navigation and an unexpected return to the menu before the movie finishes). But for the price, I can't complain. This DVD contains excerpts from other DVDs that this company produces. For overall sound quality and performance, the best is Don Carlos in my opinion. (Which led me to buy his live in San Francisco DVD. Great show and DVD btw) Yellowman, Morgan Heritage, Israel Vibration, Pato Banton, and Gregory Isaacs are also pretty good -- though the video is nothing special, just them on stage. A few songs, like Toots and the Maytals have a wierd, bass heavy mix, that doesn't sound live at all. Half Pint sounds aweful, like it was recorded on a broken tape deck. I can't believe the notes say the Half Pint DVD is in 5.1 surround. The lighting is not much better. I have no idea what he looks like, except that he's ultra black, has white teeth, and he's not that short after all. There are 2 clips from Rockers, which is a must have DVD -- the best reggae movie in my opinion. There is also some wierd European comedy skit/sci-fi, reggae thing. Maybe it's funny in France. I found it interesting none the less. There's also a brief live song by Sublime which stands out from the rest of the predominantly Jamaican reggae. (not necessarily better, just thrown in there).Good live reggae DVDs are somewhat scarce at the moment. In the meantime, this is a decent DVD with a good representation of some big names in reggae. When will someone release an early 80's Best of Reggae Sunsplash DVD?? Keep it coming.
Here's why I'm glad I bought this dvd.......Nov 01, 2007
By Scott Brown I admit that I was a little bit disappointed with the quality of this dvd, but some of the songs are really good. The real reason I'm glad I purchased this is because the song listings (that showed what dvd they originally came from) encouraged me to buy other dvds that are FANTASTIC. Yellowman Live and Don Carlos Live are excellent dvds, and that made it worth buying this one. It's not a 5, but I really love some of the songs...and it's worth the price.
