good tutorial for the intermediate flamenco guitaristFeb 02, 2011
By NANDA K well, this lesson dvd does a decent job of teaching flamenco guitar. anyway, i've been playing spanish guitar for a couple of years & i knew most of the techniques. this dvd kind of helped me brush up whatever i'm playing & helped me to approach my playing in a more orderly fashion. unfortunately, i didnt get the most important thing i was hoping for: i wanted to know if there was a secret to playing super fast picado runs like paco de lucia. there is a section on picado in vol2, but he just covers it up in a summary never delving into the deeper/faster aspects. as i said, i knew most of the techniques covered here & i was hoping that this dvd would help me take it to the next level. that, sadly, didnt happen. i guess the dvd is aimed at a mediocre level guitarist. anyway, the positives : 1. pretty good explanation of the techniques 2. nice camera angles to understand clearly. thumbs up for this ! 3. good selection of pieces/compositions are presented.
negatives: 1.he doesnt speak in a natural manner, but yells in a robotic tone. i guess hes not very good at english. 2.he never delves into the emotional aspect of flamenco or about the deeper feelings in the music. the whole dvd is centered only around the physical movements of playing. ok, maybe there wasnt enough time to put that in the dvd, but some aspects of aesthetic appreciation of flamenco would have definitely been welcome. because music is not just about finger movements, its about emotions. playing real music is different from just playing exercises !
anyway, graf may not be a master flamenco guitarist, but he's qualified enough to teach all the contents of this dvd. dont expect to learn blazing fast rasguedos(he never plays them) & dont expect to learn the secrets of paco's machine gun picado & u wont be dissapointed. good product overall.
Great Learning Material for the aspiring flamenco guitaristMay 14, 2012
By A. Smolcic Volume 2 is a great DVD for the intermediate guitarist or the ones brushing up on their skills. Both Vol 1 and Vol 2 offer learning packages for the beginner/intermediate/pre-advanced.
He clarifies the different styles of music but not concentrate on one niche..like sabicas or paco de lucia...You will have to look for paco de lucia from paco's own material.
Anyhow, Flamenco DVD Vol 2 is a great learning tool.
Videos explain the basic technique. You will see an english translation dubbed over the german/spanish one so the instructor will apear to talk like a robot. LOL.
Enjoy the video because it will give you the basic foundations for flamenco guitar technique on video.
