Gal is simply the greatest. Her interpretations of Jobim (along with the lush arrangements)send chills down the spine! This is a must have for anyone who appreciates the world's finest music. One could ramble endlessly about the qualities of this obvious labor of love. Why bother? The time could be spent watching Gal, Caetano, Gil, Ara Ketu, Cidade Negra, Djavan and the rest. Viva a musica brasileira!!

Just Superb.23 classic Jobim compositions sung by an artist who has been associted with his music for many years.Wonderful interpretations beautifully sung.Superb backing musicians including guitar,cello,flute and piano (many of the artists have featured on other Gal Costa DVDs ).Try Anos Dourados(Looks like december) and you will be hooked. Timeless a dvd you will never tire of playing.

I fell in love with the sound of Bosa-Nova in the late fifties. Through the years I've listen to some of greatest jazz tunes from the Great American Song Book performed in the Bosa-Nova beat. Gal Costa personifies the music. She does it with style, smooth powerful voice, grace and perfection. She is the female Al Jarreau. From love tunes to up-tempo trading fours. I'm not taking anything away from the rest, But in my opinion, GAL IS THE BEST.
This is a must own DVD. And like always, Amazon.com is the site to find what you thought was out of print.

Maybe the most important quality in composer Antonio Carlos Jobim is his knowledge and wide culture on the nature and sensibility of music in all its shapes. And all this has always shown clearly in his beautiful, highly dense and inspired compositions even when he offered a mere samba on his beloved city, Rio de Janeiro.
Such dense and complex work is not to be performed in a rather casual and cool way. Ms. Gal Costa is definitely not the adequate vocalist to the Jobim's body of work.
Also the arrangements seem to come from someone which has not understood the subtle harmonies penned by Jobim here and there, behind each chord sequence. Although Wagner Tiso has shown a respectful work in other areas, this was not the case in this Jobim songbook. Sometimes seems like they have gathered some instrumentalists from here and there just to make an unpretentious sound.
Finally there is also something about pitch which causes me disconfort when Ms. Costa sings her low keys.

This DVD is available from Barnes and Noble for $35.00. I know because I just purchased it. $299.00???? You must be having a laugh!
