Superb production, great meleAug 12, 2002
By Art It's nice to see Hawaiian music get such a big budget production. Nice simple stage set with very nice lighting. Audio is top-notch. And the cameras... you'll fly across the heads of the audience right up to the nose of the performer, cut to another close-up from the other side, then cut to a wide shot of the whole theater, and you'll never even see a camera in the picture in the whole show. This was a PBS show used during fund-raising campaigns at some stations, but didn't do very well in most markets, so many PBS stations have never run the show at all. Oh, and the music... If you know all these people, Cyril, Led, Makaha Sons, Brothers Caz, Na Leo, Willy and Amy, and more, you know it's superb. No reason for me to tell you that here. And the hula, and the chant, just as good. For the few bucks it's going to cost you, how can you possibly not own this DVD?

How to make a Hawaiian homesickMar 05, 2003
By Hen Min Hiu I believe this is the perfect gift for a Hawaiian expatriot. The artists and the selections played are superb examples of why Hawaiian music has endured as a world-wide favorite since the days when stringed instruments were first introduced to the islands. The technical and artistic talent of these instrumentalists, dancers and vocalists are top-notch, and no doubt were selected with great care by the producers. "Hawaii Songs of Aloha" will be a classic your heirs will fight over some day.

Capturing The Spirit Of Aloha!Jan 17, 2006

"Rainbow Sphinx"
'Hawaii Songs Of Aloha' is a beautiful presentation of the music and dance of the Polynesian Islands that perfectly encapsulates the "Spirit of Aloha." Produced for PBS television, this 77 minute concert will wisk you away on a musical voyage to the land of enchantment to listen to the rhythmic beats and watch some of the most lovely and expressive swaying moments the islands have to offer. It really couldn't have been anymore enjoyable. This is a DVD you'll never get tired of viewing!
My favorite performances are by; Na Leo, The Brothers Cazimero and the amazing ukulele playing of Jake Shimabukuro.
