Good teacher, but no chance to practice.Jan 22, 2010 The teacher and demonstrator are very good, the surroundings beautiful, but there is no opportunity to practice what you've been taught.
Hard to followDec 17, 2009 For a beginner, this video is hard to follow. The demonstration is not step by step and tends to jump around. Also, the camera keeps circling around the dancer which makes it difficult to see the dancer's arm, feet, and body positions.
very nice choice!Sep 12, 2009 I've been searching for this cd a long time, after many searches, finally on amazon I've found it with an excellent price!
This dvd is made by one of the greatest half tahitian dancer and performer, Tumata Robinson. It occure to us that she may use basic gesture, but the fact is, this is the real dance, this one whose our ancestors use to do in front of the Tahitian Royal Court.
You cannot believe how far the thought of recognition of this art is one of the most important level tahitian people need to gain, by gifting in legacy to the whole world the art of the tahitian dance.
beautifull and insightfullAug 29, 2009 I just got this DVD and watched it twice but did not practice it yet.
I found it very precise, with very good descritpions of the movements.
A brief history of this dance is also useful.
I always found similarities between bellydance and polynesian dance, now I know !
No warm up though, but it seems to become the rule !

Nice Tahitian Dance DrillsAug 28, 2009 Based on the great production quality of the dvd, you can tell that a nice effort was made to provide a broad overview of tahitian dance steps. Tumata instructs while one of her dancer/instructors performs the demo. There is not extensive choreography here, but it is more like a dictionary of sorts that shows you several movements and then gives you a chance to practice. there are two short choreographies amidst the instruction but that is not the focus. the positives of the dvd are the demonstration of several intermediate and advanced techniques not seen in, say, Kili's workouts, which are on a more beginner level and modernized (although Kili makes great dvds I think!)
some of the advanced steps include the pa'i pa'i, the hamenimeni, and many more. I do hope Tumata continues to build on this foundation dvd.
