Best MODERN Cuban music DVD yet!Jun 05, 2007
By Firebrand I bought this DVD, not for the fame of Pio Leiva, but for the powerhouse musicianship behind him. Included in the roster are talents like Mayito Rivera (in my opinion, the most dynamic salsa singer in Cuba), Feliciano Arango (the legendary bass player of Cuba's NG La Banda, and often called "father of Timba-Salsa bass playing"), and Los Van Van's top drummer, Samuel Formell (recognized as one of the best drummers of the island). While I do not know the names of the rest of the crew, I can assure the musicianship represents Cuba's best. The video quality is very good and the sound is clear for all instruments. Definitely an improvement over other "Cuba DVDs" who are bootleg VHS copies inside DVDs.
If there ever was a DVD that made me bob my head and smile in delight, this is the one. What a treat!

Menos Rather Than MasDec 14, 2007
By Norman G. Lopez I am a lover of Cuban music. I am a second generation Cubano who is very assimilated. Buena Vista Social Club, Blanco y Negro and No Borders Canto are three concert DVDs that have resonated strongly with me. Sad to say, the music is great on this DVD but, for me, there is no emotional connection between the music, the performers and this viewer. Sorry! I was disappointed. Video and sound were satisfactory.

I am a big fan of cuban music, a big fan of groups like los van van, pupy y los que son son, jovenes clasios del son etc....Here you feel the power of what cuban music is today, with young guns like mayito rivera ( van van), Tirso Duarte ( from pupy y los que son son) and el nene from ( jovenes clasicos del son you will be overwhelmed with this concert.. great songs, great soneos and incredible energy packed cuabn music at its best.. i never get tires of watching this dvd.. highlights are : " negrito bailiador" sung with fierce and bravado by Mayito Rivera,, highly recommeneded.

By Russell Branca I'm a musician but in a different genre. This is such a great concert. Anyone who doesn't like this just doesn't like music. The band is absolutely on fire and do everything to perfection. Ok, Pio Leyva is beyond his prime but he's not on every tune and he adds humanistic warmth to complement all that young fiery talent behind him. It's also a marvelous example of the right way to put on a concert. The selection of tunes, the tempos, the whole presentation captures the audience from the first note, never loses them for a second, and leaves them shouting for more. Definitely a buy.
