Not to be missed!Nov 08, 2011
By Rattler The Transatlantic Sessions are legendary! As far as the musical performances are concerned, things simply can't get any better for the aficionado of Scottish/Irish roots music. Highlights of this third series, filmed at the atmospheric location of Strathgarry House near Killicrankie in the Perthshire Highlands, Scotland, include Joan Osborne's wonderful rendition of Kris Kristofferson's "Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends", Cara Dillon with an absolutely gorgeous "Garden Valley", Darrell Scott doing his "You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive" accompanied by the heavenly voice of Karen Matheson, who in turn offers a version of "Crucan Na Bpaiste" that just made the little hairs on my neck stand up. Also highly welcome is the appearance of Iris DeMent, otherwise unfortunately not seen very often.
That said, there are also some minor criticisms. First of all, US customers should heed my fellow reviewer's remarks concerning the PAL format... Second, given that this is a music DVD, it's a bit disappointing to find the sound compressed down to 192 kbps. And finally, the photography, though still very good, is no longer as congenial as in the first series, where the camera moved less, shots were longer and cuts fewer, which made it more congenial to the unique "living room" atmosphere.
Nevertheless, the DVD is a real treasure and an absolute must-have for all lovers of this musical genre.

Grand Transatlantic SessionsDec 11, 2010
By R. Cassell This is one of the best collection of songs and artists out there with a unique blend of Celtic and blue grass. It also gives you a special insight into the musician's thoughts and their interaction. Really makes you fell like you are a part of the music they are making. This is a DVD that gets played a lot.

Warning PAL format!Aug 24, 2010

"do-it-yourselfer"
I was excited to receive this DVD as it features many of my favorite musicians. However, when I put it in my player, it came up as unplayable. It was only then that I noticed the PAL (European TV) format. I went back to Amazon, and it was correctly listed, but not prominently. I thought that Amazon would have clearly marked this incompatibility for its US customers. Now that it's opened, the DVD is not returnable.
Be very careful concerning the zone.Jan 29, 2012
By P. Salmon An excellent DVD. I've watched it several times and it just as enjoyable at each viewing. One warning...be very careful to note which "Zone" the DVD is compatible with. Mine will only play on my computer's DVD drive and not on my DVD player for the TV.
